Chico Anderson

Chico Anderson is a permanent deacon. He was assigned to St. Lawrence and St. Joseph Churches in 2005. Prior to that he served as a deacon and pastoral minister in Duluth’s St. Michael’s Church, Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, St. John’s Church and St. Benedict’s Church where he was ordained in 1981. Before his work in parish ministry Chico worked for the Duluth Catholic Diocese as a part of Bishop Paul Anderson’s staff from 1972 to 1980. Chico taught religious and ethical studies at Duluth Marshall from 1981 to 2012 when he retired, after serving as the school’s chaplain in addition to his teaching duties. Chico earned a Bachelor’s Degree in religious education (summa cum laude) from the College of St. Scholastica and a Master’s Degree in theology, emphasis in Biblical theology, from the University of Notre Dame. He was one of the first men to be ordained as a permanent deacon for the local Church of Duluth. Currently Chico teaches adult Bible study sessions for the parish cluster, visits the hospital, conducts weekly Communion Services at Duluth’s Primrose Retirement Community and is available for counseling on spiritual matters and habits of the heart. Chico loves parish ministry and his love for the Mass is self-evident as he strives to minister to God’s people. Chico is married to Janet, a retired orthopedic nurse. They have been married since 1970 and have two grown children and seven grandchildren. If deacons were to have mottos he would borrow the motto of Bishop Paul Anderson, the ordinary who ordained him: “To proclaim the infinite riches of Christ.” (Ephesians 3:8)
